What the Stars Saw on the Prairie

Jason McKinney collaborated with pianist and composer Kathleen Ryan to create an arrangement of What the Stars Saw on the Prairie for piano and winds. To read more about their collaboration, please visit the Manitou-Zine article.

Originally from Kathleen’s solo piano album A Handful of Quietness, the new arrangement adds even more color and depth to an already beautiful work.

Recorded live in concert for our 2017 Winter Songs & Carols program at Grace Episcopal Church, Traverse City. The premiere performance began with a reading of “What the Stars Saw”, an essay written by Jason in memory of his grandmother, Patsy McKinney, read by Jan Ross.

NOTE: The entire concert was recorded and engineered by Michael Culler.
